A magyarországi mezőgazdasági szaktanácsadás intézményi jellemzői AgEcon
Szekely, Erika.
A mezőgazdasági tanácsadás jelentős múltra tekint vissza hazánkban. Hosszabb távon a tanácsadás piacvezéreltté tétele szolgálja leginkább a...

A qualidade na relação cliente-fornecedor interno (Back room versus Front Office) determinando a satisfação do cliente externo AgEcon
Borges, Mabio Teodoro; Said Darwich, Abdul Rahman; Oliveira, Cyntia Meireles De; Silva, Daniel Ferreira Da.
The growth of the section of services has been evidencing the importance of the...

A TÉSZ-en keresztüli értékesítést motiváló tényezők és körülmények AgEcon
Dudas, Gyula.
Competition Regimes in Telecommunications and the International Trading System AgEcon
Koopmann, Georg.
In most countries, competition in the telecommunications industry is subject to both sector-specific regulation and more general antitrust policies. At the same time, a process of international market liberalisation is under way in telecommunications which can only be truly effective - and further advance - if appropriate competitive safeguards are in place. Trading partners should agree on certain minimum standards to be observed in this area in order to better combat anticompetitive conduct and avoid international conflicts. The Reference Paper to the WTO Agreement on Basic Telecommunications is an important step in this direction and may also serve as a model for other network industries. It is a framework of rules which has to be filled with concrete...

Environmentally-Oriented Innovative Strategies and Firm Performances in Services. Micro-Evidence from Italy AgEcon
Cainelli, Giulio; Mazzanti, Massimiliano; Zoboli, Roberto.
This paper aims at analysing the role of the environment in innovative strategies based on firm economic performance indicators such as employment, turnover, and labour productivity growth. We exploit a unique dataset of 773 Italian service firms with 20 or more employees comprising 1993-1995 CIS II data on firm innovation strategic motivations and 1995-1998 data on employment, turnover, and labour productivity from the System of the Enterprise Account (SEA). We specify a Gibrat-like empirical model in which the covariates include firm strategies (innovation and environmental), and a set of other explanatory variables and controls. Our econometric findings show a negative link between environmental motivations and growth in employment and turnover and a...

The Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS) provides regular and systematic reference information on the physical and biogeochemical ocean and sea-ice state for the global ocean and the European regional seas. CMEMS serves a wide range of users (more than 15,000 users are now registered to the service) and applications. Observations are a fundamental pillar of the CMEMS value-added chain that goes from observation to information and users. Observations are used by CMEMS Thematic Assembly Centres (TACs) to derive high-level data products and by CMEMS Monitoring and Forecasting Centres (MFCs) to validate and constrain their global and regional ocean analysis and forecasting systems. This paper presents an overview of CMEMS, its evolution,...

Front office: Role positions and risks of maintaining standards of service quality AgEcon
Baronene, Svetlana.
Studies show that one of the key reasons for this development lays in the fact, that the effects of the value added and customer satisfaction appears in the process of communicating with the so-called contact personnel. Gender differences in Uganda: the case for access to education and health services AgEcon
Seewanyana, Sarah; Kasirye, Ibrahim.
Using the nationally representative Gender Productivity Survey (GPS) of 2007/08 conducted by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBoS), the paper examines gender biases in school attainment, returns to education, expenditure on health and education, access to health services. While Uganda has recorded progress on MDG 3: promote gender equality and empower women, the paper reveals that significant gender biases still exist with a regional dimension. These biases are more pronounced in Northern Uganda, which is the poorest region. In other words, interventions in this part of the country should be able to address these biases if the region is to catch up with the rest of the country. These findings further suggest that free education both at primary and...

Internationalisierung der Dienstleistungserstellung: Konsequenzen fur den schweizerischen Arbeitsmarkt AgEcon
Henneberger, Fred; Ziegler, Alexandre.
This paper analyses the potential employment effects of foreign direct investment in the Swiss services industry. First, the theoretical analysis considers the consequences on domestic employment resulting from the specific characteristics of services compared with those of industrial goods. It is demonstrated that conventional research in this field systematically ignores important factors which influence domestic employment. We point out that, not only the degree of tradability of services, but also the mobility of consumers and producers, as well as the motives underlying the decisions for foreign investment have a crucial influence on the consequences to be expected for the domestic labour market. Second, an initial attempt was undertaken to...

INVESTIGATING USER PREFERENCES FOR SERVICES IN RURAL AREAS OF SCOTLAND: A TERRITORIAL APPROACH AgEcon
Hall, Clare; Moran, Dominic; McVittie, Alistair.
Territorialisation of rural policies requires moving from a sectoral approach to service provision, and policies that focus exclusively on health and education, for example, to an understanding of overall service provision and quality, differentiated by rural area definition, not primarily by sector. An investigation of the expectations of stakeholders in rural Scotland, relating to availability, quality and accessibility of services, revealed that preferences were often different within different areas. The results input to the debate about the need to territorialise rural policy, and provide information for allocation decisions relating to resources aimed at creating sustainable rural communities in Scotland.

Investing in Livestock Development in Water-Scarce Semi-Arid Watersheds: Technological, Institutional and Policy Dimensions AgEcon
Puskur, Ranjitha.
Watershed Development Programmes (WDPs) in India were conceived as tools for correcting the regional imbalances in agricultural development created by Green Revolution, through investments in soil and water conservation (SWC) and natural resource management (NRM) in rainfed areas. Though the overall impact of WDPs has been positive and significant, with increase in physical and economic access to groundwater, landless and marginal households hardly benefited from watershed development. Recent evidence points out that in many watersheds inequities increased, since for non-land owning and -well owning households access to drinking water, grazing lands and other natural resources decreased. This paper is based on a research project carried out by the...

RECENT CHANGES IN MARKETING AND TRADE PRACTICES IN THE U.S. LETTUCE AND FRESH-CUT VEGETABLE INDUSTRIES AgEcon
Handy, Charles R.; Thompson, Gary D.; Glaser, Lewrene K..
Fifteen lettuce and bagged salad shippers were interviewed as part of a larger study on changes in produce marketing. Retail consolidation, changes in technology, and increased consumer demand for convenience, product diversity, and year-round availability have all influenced shipper-retailer relations. The interviewed firms provided more fees and services to retail buyers in 1999 than 1994. Most of the bagged salad shippers paid slotting fees, while none of the lettuce shippers were currently doing so. Bagged salad firms tended to offer services to their customers, while lettuce firms generally complied with the service requests made by retailers.
